Suppose you are looking for a unique and authentic safari experience in the heart of the African wilderness. In that case, consider staying at the Tamboti Tented Camp in the Kruger National Park. This small and secluded camp allows you to sleep in comfortable and spacious safari tents, surrounded by the sounds and sights of nature.
The Tamboti Tented Camp is located on the banks of the Timbavati River, on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, approximately 2 km east of Orpen Rest Camp. The camp is named after the Tamboti trees that grow abundantly and provide shade and shelter for the tents and wildlife.

The camp has two types of tents: standard tents (CTT2 and CTT4), which can accommodate 2 or 4 people, and luxury tents (LST3), which can accommodate 3 people. The standard tents have electrical plug points, small fridges, lights, fans, communal ablutions and kitchens. The luxury tents have en-suite bathrooms, fridges, hotplates, sinks, utensils, fans, and private decks overlooking the river.
The camp does not have a shop or a restaurant, so you must bring your own food and supplies or use the facilities at Orpen Rest Camp nearby. The camp does have a boma (communal barbecue area) where you can enjoy a braai (barbecue) under the stars with other guests. There is also a bird hide where you can observe the rich birdlife of the area³.
One of the main attractions of staying at the Tamboti Tented Camp is seeing wildlife from your tent or deck. The Timbavati River attracts a variety of animals, especially during the dry season when water is scarce. You might see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, impalas, kudus, waterbucks, warthogs, baboons, monkeys, and even leopards. You might hear lions roaring, hyenas laughing, or owls hooting at night.
Another attraction is the opportunity to go on guided game drives, or bush walks with experienced rangers and trackers. You can explore the diverse landscapes and habitats of the Kruger National Park and learn about its flora and fauna. You can also visit nearby attractions such as Rabelais Hut Museum, Timbavati Picnic Site, Ratel Pan Bird Hide, or Bobbejaanskrans Viewpoint.
The Tamboti Tented Camp is a perfect place for those who want to experience a rustic and intimate safari adventure in one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world. It allows you to connect with nature and enjoy its beauty and tranquillity. It is also an excellent option for those travelling on a budget or looking for something different from the usual lodges and hotels.
Suppose you are interested in booking your stay at the Tamboti Tented Camp. In that case, you can do so online via the SANParks website or contact them by phone or email. But hurry up, because this camp is very popular and often fully booked!
